Last weekend the Vocalescence ladies had their annual retreat.
With a few beautiful words from our TC Gill Morgan and some pictures for proof, here’s a little summary of our feelings…
“To our incredible song sisters, thank you for your courage, vulnerability, flexibility and adaptability… You have embraced new learning with open hearts, encouraged and inspired one another and motivated each one of us in ways words can scarcely express.
To all the individuals who stood in front of the chorus in any way this weekend, you were nothing short of fabulous!”
We were extremely lucky to have the amazing Kate Sinclair, director of the Waikato Rivertones Chorus coaching us this retreat and level up our competition package!
Absolute overwhelming gratitude goes out to our director extraordinare, Jen Irvine, we are the luckiest chorus in the world to have you at the helm showing us that together we are capable of creating amazing things!
6 weeks until we cross the stage in Hobart at the Sweet Adeline’s regional contest, and we can’t wait to show the world what Vocalescence is capable of!

With many votes to her name, our very deserving Judi Kahler was announced our Sweet Adeline of the year 2024!
As a proud Vocalescence member since 2018, Judi lives and breathes our values of Dream, Inspire, Unite and Achieve.
Sweet Adelines and barbershop have been part of her world for her whole life and we are so happy to have her in our chorus and our lives.
Judi is always putting her hand up to help in any way she can, and we can not imagine our chorus without her. Not only is she an integral part of our Lead section, she is also a member of our music team as our Music Team Coordinator.
Congratulations Judi, so well deserved! We love you!

So immensely proud and grateful to have our very own Sharon Cartwright on our team and representing Sweet Adelines Australia as the first ever Australian woman on a global scale!
Leading by example and sharing her wisdom, barbershop knowledge, harmony singing, leadership and so much more!
Sharon has been elected to the Executive Committee by the International Board of Directors - she will be the Secretary for the 2024-2025 financial year.
Sharon is the first Australian to be elected to the Executive Committee.

Recently, we took some time out to recognise each other and the effort that goes into making Vocalescence what it is:
Our Annual Awards Night is a great chance to look back on what we’ve achieved over the year and forward to making our future dreams happen.
Congrats to all of our Management and Music teams past and present and our award winners. We really couldn’t do it without everyone’s hard work. A special mention to Karen Healey, our Vocalescence Sweet Adeline of the Year for 2022.
A special shout out to our Team Co-ordinator Michelle McCuaig for organising this event, the wonderful Geoff Cartwright for His MC work, as always our wonderful Musical and Artistic Director Jen Granato Howson and the fabulously creative Lisa Poppins from Luna Salt for making our fab, personalised gifts!!!

Investing in our team helps us all achieve more; so, recently our music team spent some time together to enhance their knowledge and plan for our upcoming repertoire- they even found some time to sing for the PNG Rugby team!! Way to go, girls! 🎵🎶

More investment in our learning last weekend as our Directing team Jen Granato Howson and Elizabeth Isdale attended the Sweet Adelines Australia Director’s School. Our very own Bass Section Specialist and Regional Education Faculty member Sharon Cartwright also led a session on leadership.
And they even managed to pick up our certificates and medals from this years comp. Eek! So exciting! Glad you had a good time ladies and can’t wait for you to share what you learnt.
- Barbershop Harmony Australia Competition 2022

Date Posted: Sun, 8 May 2022What a great day competing live again, and for the first time as a Barbershop Harmony Australia chorus, yesterday. We were very happy with our score and in taking out the first Women’s category TROPHY for the Sunshine Region.
Thanks for hostingthe event The Blenders Chorus and super well done to our quarteters Side Hustle Quartet and Luminous Quartet, who both qualified for Nationals later this year!
Finally, an awesome 'Well done!' to our Bass Section specialist Sharon, and the Luminous Ladies for their Women's quartet win AND second place overall- you rock!!
